California: Google has built a quantum computer that can do so many calculations in the blink of an eye that it would take today’s best supercomputers 47 years to complete.
Research conducted by Google researchers claims that the company’s latest technology is far more advanced than the capabilities of current supercomputers.
According to quantum computer experts, the technology, depending on a specific type of quantum physics, could create extremely powerful machines that could play a role in climate change and medicine. However, these computers could pose a threat to national security by compromising today’s encryption systems.
Four years ago, Google announced it was the first company to achieve ‘quantum supremacy.’ .
A new paper from the company published in ArXiv presents another powerful device to settle this long-running debate.
The 2019 machine had 53 qubits, while the current device has 70 qubits.
