9922 suspects were arrested in the European Union last year, the data of the anti-crime program is released


Figures on the actions of public agencies against organized crime in the European Union during 2022 have been released.

In this regard, the results of the EU’s flagship Operation EMPACT program against organized crime published by the European Council, in 15 crime-affected areas of the Union. , EU-wide law enforcement and judicial actions have resulted in the arrest of 9,922 people.

Meanwhile, 4019 victims of human trafficking were identified and 3646 migrant traffickers were arrested. During these raids, more than 180 million euros were confiscated while more than 62 tons of drugs were recovered.

Besides, 9262 new cases were registered and their investigations were started. According to the European Council, the program called IMPACT aims to improve coordination and cooperation on crime-fighting priorities affecting EU member states.

Actions against crime are carried out at national level by law enforcement and judicial authorities, supported by EU institutions and EU agencies. Where relevant public and private sector organizations, international organizations and third countries are also involved.

According to the Council, EMPACT, which stands for European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats, ensures a coordinated approach to the EU’s internal security. These include measures ranging from investigations, external border control, police, customs and judicial cooperation to information management, innovation, training, prevention and the external dimension of internal security, as well as public-private partnerships.
