There are hundreds of Nellore cows in Brazil. According to reports, at a recent auction in Arando, Brazil, one-third ownership of such a cow was sold for $1.44 million, bringing its total value to $4.3 million.
The Nellore breed is named after the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh from where the breed was brought to Brazil. After that it moved to other parts of the world.
Nellore breed cows are expensive due to their unusual characteristics. These cows have shiny white hair, loose skin and large humps on their shoulders. It adapts easily to high temperatures and its white hair plays an important role in this.
Their hair reflects sunlight so they don’t feel hot. Their sweat glands are twice as large and 30 percent larger than most European breeds. In addition, they have a natural ability to resist many infections. Not only this, but due to their tough skin, even blood-sucking insects cannot harm them.
