Passengers going from Karachi to different cities of the province and other provinces of the country to celebrate Eid paid extra fares this year as well.

The Sindh Transport Department, especially the management of the Provincial Transport Authority, fined several bus crews for charging extra fare and through advertisements informed the public about the mobile numbers of the concerned officers so that people could file complaints against the transporters charging extra fare. write.

Despite all these measures, the transporters charged arbitrary fares from the passengers, in some places there were fights between the passengers and the transporters, but the people were forced to pay the extra fares. According to the passengers, they were charged double the fare in the buses going from Karachi to Larkana.

Various citizens of Larkana district, including Azam Zahrani from Garilo town of Bakrani taluk, told The Express Tribune that they were charged Rs 2500 as a fare from Karachi to Larkana as against Rs 1200 per passenger under normal circumstances.

According to Baqir Ali Jatoi, who traveled from Karachi to Larkana two days before Eid, on June 27, he received 3000 rupees from them. 900 is charged till Sanghar.

According to Mehboob Ansari, a citizen going from Karachi to Thari Mir Wah in Khairpur district, the bus drivers on his route are charging 1800 to 2000 rupees per passenger, while on normal days they charge 1200 rupees, from Islamabad to Kundiaru in Sindh. According to Abdul Razzaq Bhagat, a citizen, he has paid Rs 3500 as rent, on normal days he is charged Rs 2700 as rent.

Malik Fayyaz Awan, a lawyer from Attock region of Punjab, said that on normal days, bus drivers charge Rs 6,000 for the fare from Karachi to Attock, on Eid days, they charge up to Rs 7,000.

Those traveling to Punjab have alternative means of trains, but on the occasion of Eid, the trains are very crowded, due to which either seats are not available and even if seats are available, the rush is so much that the passengers have to leave their seats. Can’t even get up from the seat to reach the washroom, because the passengers are full even on the way in between.

On the occasion of Eid, such problems are also faced by passengers traveling in business class. In this regard, when the Express Tribune contacted Provincial Transport Authority Secretary Amit Narwani, he said that on behalf of the bus operators. Complaints of charging extra fare have been received from which the concerned officers across Sindh are taking action against the bus operators charging extra fare.

He said that he himself is currently present on the M-Nine Highway in Karachi and is taking action against those who collect extra fare. But imposed a fine of around 40 thousand rupees.
