Pakistan Post stopped delivery of University of Karachi documents due to non-payment

Karachi: Pakistan Post has stopped delivery of all types of documents including degrees from Karachi University due to non-payment of Rs 1 crore due to mismanagement in the finance department of Karachi University

Earlier, the college teachers who assessed the examination copies have been deprived of their salaries for three to four years and due to non-payment, most of the teachers have even apologized for the assessment of the examination copies from University of Karachi.

On the other hand, in the evening program, which is considered a major source of revenue for the University of Karachi, the payment of compensation to the teachers is almost stopped and the most victim is the visiting faculty. has reached

Not only this, but recently the salaries of non-permanent teachers (Teaching Associates) teaching in the morning program have also been stopped. .

It is also known that part-time employees have not been issued salaries in the last month’s salaries, while it has been decided not to issue pensions to pensioners even before Eid-ul-Adha.

On the other hand, teachers and staff living in the university campus are still being subsidized more than 3 crore rupees per month in terms of electricity bills. are being taken

Electricity meters are not being installed on these houses, due to which the campus residents are spending more than Rs. 50,000 per month with 4 to 6 air conditioners by paying Rs. Damaging the University’s exchequer.
This series of mismanagement and non-payments of the finance department has been going on continuously for at least the last 3 and a half years. Despite these financial mismanagement, they are still in their positions.

It is noteworthy that the Director of Finance of University of Karachi does not come to his office very often and runs the office from home and supervises the financial affairs of the university.

“Express” went to his office two days in a row and tried to find out the position of the finance department on these matters, but the staff told him that he had not reached the office. Contact was also asked to know the position, but he continued to avoid contact.
It should be noted that the finance department of the University of Karachi is continuously receiving crores of rupees in the form of student fees from the evening program and college education, but only the teachers who run this system are deprived of their salaries.

Sources from the finance department of the University of Karachi say that only for the fees of BCom and BA regular (associate degree) from the examination department, 3 million rupees from March 15 to March 30, and 1 crore 12 million from March 31 to April 27. Rs. whereas after that from May 2 to 19 Rs. 1 crore 48 lakh was received.

The finance department not only did not make payments to the concerned persons but also stopped the payment of Pakistan Post which is about 1 crore rupees, in response to which Pakistan Post suspended the service of University of Karachi.

Now the University of Karachi is charging fees from the students for issuance of certificates and mark sheets, verification of certificates and other items, but the process of reaching the relevant addresses of the students has stopped.

There are piles of documents which Pakistan Post is not ready to accept but the finance department of the university is also not ready to pay this.

The examination department of University of Karachi has confirmed this matter, on the other hand, the issue of non-payment of teaching associates and college teachers is also getting worse. A teaching associate in the Department of International Relations told “Express” that “he has not received his salary since April, yet he is rendering teaching services.”

The said teacher revealed that they have not been paid for the assessment of MA exam copies since 2021, if the assessment is delayed then the examination department gets a notice but no one is going to take notice of our non-payment.

The teacher said that he has been to the finance department many times, every time a new excuse is made, now all that is left is to knock on the door of the vice chancellor. Another college teacher said, “They have returned the exam copies of the associate degree and have decided not to do any more assessment.

On the other hand, the sources of the examination department are also telling that this time many college teachers have sent back the examination copies without assessment.

It has also been learned that the portal service used for admissions of MPhil/PhD and BS of University of Karachi was also suspended due to non-payment for several months, amounting to more than Rs 1 crore.

Due to this, despite the decisions of the Board for Advanced Studies and Research and all the preparations, the University of Karachi could not announce the admissions for MPhil/PhD for at least two weeks and the admissions were also delayed.

Similarly, last year, the issue of using the scholarship money of the deserving and intelligent students in various fields instead of giving it to the students has come to light.

It should be remembered that like more than 20 universities of Sindh, there is no permanent director of finance in University of Karachi. The acting director of finance has completed his three-year term last October, but the government of Sindh is not ready to give a permanent director of finance to universities.

On the other hand, the Secretary Universities and Boards is also being accused of supporting the acting director of finance of University of Karachi, which is causing problems in the university.

In this regard, when “Express” contacted Secretary Universities and Boards Murid Rahimo, he said, “Why did I start supporting someone? My department has been sending the summary of the appointment of a new director of finance to the Chief Minister for 3 months. However, there is no summary approval.

On the question of non-payment, he said that all this is due to the internal problems of the people of University of Karachi, how can I be sure that the teachers who are teaching are not getting paid.

On a question, he said that someone should ask these teachers where they are attending, how many classes students have taken in the entire semester, how much research they have done.

Mureed Rahimo questioned that if the director of finance is not working properly, why does the vice chancellor not present the matter in the syndicate, why is he silent?
