Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Barrister Murtaza Wahab took oath as Mayor and Salman Abdullah as Deputy Mayor of Karachi, Election Commissioner Sindh Ijaz Chauhan took oath.
In the oath-taking ceremony held at the Polo Ground in Karachi, the provincial ministers and advisers including Chairman People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah were also present in the ceremony.
Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab said that the People’s Party’s service manifesto will be taken forward, people will play their role for the manifesto and bring real positive change in Karachi.
Earlier, the notification of appointment of Murtaza Wahab as Mayor of Karachi was challenged in Sindh High Court, in which it was requested that the notification of appointment of Murtaza Wahab as Mayor should be suspended.
The petitioner said that the legal requirements for the election of Murtaza Wahab were not fulfilled.
Sindh Government, Election Commission and Murtaza Wahab have been made parties in the petition and it has been requested that the matter be heard on Tuesday, June 20.
