In Gujarat, India, an incident that is perhaps not too unusual for a country like India where corruption is rampant, a bridge built over the Mandola river in the district collapsed before its inauguration.
According to foreign media reports, the newly constructed bridge collapsed at around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a newly constructed bridge over the Mandola river in Gujarat’s Tapi district. Poor quality materials were allegedly used in the construction of the bridge.
Before the inauguration, the middle section of the newly constructed bridge collapsed and fell into the Mandola river. According to a local newspaper, the government has suspended the executive engineer, deputy executive engineer and assistant engineer soon after the incident.

According to Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi, people are fed up with the corruption model of the BJP government. Bridge collapses have occurred in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Mehsana and other districts. Around 15 villages have been affected due to the collapsed bridge.
The bridge was built by Akshay Construction, a company that has built several other bridges including Kusimba in South Gujarat, but the company’s owners were not available for comment.
