The Taliban allowed the Iranian delegation to inspect the Helmand River

bill to: The Iranian envoy to Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi Qoumi said that the Taliban and the Iranian government have agreed that the Iranian team will inspect the water level of the Helmand River.

According to international media reports, the agreement between the two countries came after weeks of tension between Tehran and Kabul, in which Iranian officials accused the Taliban of violating the 1973 water agreement.

The Iranian government accused the Taliban of blocking the flow of the Helmand River to Iran. Hassan Kazemi told Iran’s state TV IRNA that Iran expects adequate water supplies after the team’s visit is completed.

He also said he welcomed the Taliban’s move to accept the terms and conditions of the 1973 water agreement and said there was no tension between the two sides over the original agreement.

The Taliban have not yet confirmed or denied the above claims of the Iranian envoy.

In addition, Hassan Kazmi also criticized the Taliban government for building the Kamal Khan Dam along the Helmand River and said that Iran was not informed about the plan to build the dam, which reduces the flow of water to Iran.

It should be noted that the tension between the two countries increased last month when the Iranian president warned that his government would take action if the issue was not addressed by the Taliban.
