Punjab's temporary livestock markets lack facilities, animal prices double

Lahore: Due to the poor strategy of the Local Government Department, the temporary cattle markets set up across Punjab on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha are deprived of facilities.

The markets set up by the Metropolitan Corporations across Punjab including Lahore do not have tents, lights, water and washroom facilities due to which the traders are facing difficulties.

According to Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Randhawa, 6 markets have been set up in Kasur, 9 in Sheikhupura, 6 in Nankana and 10 in Lahore for sacrificial animals which will be operational from tomorrow (Sunday). And no tax or fee will be charged.

In cattle markets, the prices of animals are said to be double compared to last year, the price of a 20 to 25 kg goat is 70 to 80 thousand and a goat of 30 to 35 kg is being asked for more than one lakh rupees.

A big goat with four or six teeth is asking for two to two and a half lakh rupees, a medium goat is asking for three lakh rupees, a medium cow is six to seven lakh rupees, and a big animal is asking for ten to fifteen lakh rupees.
