A heatwave in the south-central part of Chile has caused wildfires in several places out of control. The terrible fire has engulfed a larger area than the American city of Philadelphia.
23 people have been killed, 979 have been injured in various accidents, while 1100 people have been evacuated from residential areas.
According to the authorities, 88 houses have been destroyed and 16 thousand acres of land has been burnt to ashes in the affected parts due to the forest fire.
Out of 231 forest fires since last week, 80 have been brought under control.
Chile’s Interior Minister says that due to the temperature being 40 degrees Celsius, fires have broken out in 76 more places and there are difficulties in extinguishing the fires due to the extreme heat.
On the other hand, the Chilean government has extended the disaster situation to the southern region.
