New York: The Wall Street Journal released an alarming report in collaboration with Stanford University and the University of Massachusetts, saying that Instagram has actually become a vast network of people ‘desiring sexual acts with young children’. There are many groups freely posting images and illegal content.

People who commit such heinous acts are called pedophiles. On the Internet, they are also known as Predators.

The report alarmingly reveals that there are countless groups on the app that freely buy, sell, demand and openly discuss sexual images, videos, and other content of minors. But remember that unlike any internet forum, Instagram doesn’t offer these activities itself, rather its algorithm enhances it. It learns the interactions of pedophiles and connects them to content sellers as an algorithmic ‘recommendation’ system nurtures it.

This is the reason why it has been termed as a big challenge for Meta Company. The report states that now META’s Trust and Safety team needs concrete steps in this regard.

According to reports, illegal images and content are being sold through the menu and Instagram is expanding it. Some menus have children’s videos and prices written on them. There are also videos of children hurting themselves or abusing animals.

According to Stanford’s Internet Observatory, the limit is that children are willing to meet in person. But Instagram only gives a warning popup message but not removing the video or post.

The report states that Metta seems to be aware of the issue as well. It has also taken some steps and deployed teams internally to crack these dark networks. But more steps are needed because of the large number of teenage boys and girls on Instagram.

According to the report, these dark criminals of the internet lure boys and girls with their sentences. Invite them to your side, use Instagram hashtags to further their nefarious purposes, direct messages and likes.
