The visit of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) chief to China has been revealed.
According to international media reports, a US official said that to improve communication between Beijing and Washington, CIA Director William Burns visited China last month for talks with his Chinese counterparts.
Burns made the visit in May, which was first reported by The Financial Times. The visit comes as Washington seeks to ease tensions with Beijing and restore lines of communication.
Amid fears that miscommunication between the two world powers could accidentally escalate into conflict.
US President Joe Biden’s administration has pushed for a resumption of communications and meeting schedules between various top officials in Washington and Beijing.
Last month, Director Burns traveled to Beijing where he met with Chinese counterparts and stressed the importance of maintaining open lines of communication across intelligence channels, a US official told Reuters.
