Visit of the Deputy Head of the American Mission to Karachi, reiterating strong cooperation in various sectors

Deputy Chief of the US Mission in Pakistan, Andrew Schoffer, visited Karachi, the capital of Sindh, from May 31 to June 3.

The purpose of his visit was to highlight US cooperation and commitment in Pakistan’s healthcare and education sectors, including the US-Pakistan ‘Green Alliance’ framework.

Highlights of the visit include Andrew Schoffer’s meetings with government officials, doctors, human rights representatives and students from the US government-sponsored English Works program.

United States and Pakistan are making joint preparations to deal with future environmental and economic challenges through the framework of ‘Green Alliance’.

To encourage these priorities, DCM Andrew Schoffer participated in a roundtable discussion with Pakistan’s Minister of Maritime Affairs Syed Faisal Sabzwari, government officials and private sector leaders to modernize environmentally friendly shipping activities in Pakistan. New ways to build on can be identified.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through shipping activities in Pakistan will not only help mitigate the effects of climate change but also increase the long-term competitiveness of Pakistan’s shipping industry and the overall economy.

Andrew Schoffer, Deputy Chief of the US Mission, met with the 24 students and teachers who will be part of NASA’s space mission in the summer under a grant issued by the US government to the David Foundation (TDF).

TDF was awarded a $250,000 grant from funds from the US Consulate in Karachi to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in schools in disadvantaged areas.

Through this funding, 100 teachers from 50 schools were trained in teaching STEM education and 1200 students from the same schools were given a visit to the Magnify Science Center to increase their interest in STEM education and careers.

A STEAM competition was organized among the schools participating in this training course, in which students from 3 successful schools will be given a golden opportunity to go to America this summer to participate in NASA’s space camp.

DCM Andrew Shofer, while expressing his thoughts at the closing ceremony of the English Works program with the support of the American government in Karachi, highlighted the strong cooperation of the United States in the education sector.

The purpose of the English Works program was to provide students from economically weaker and disadvantaged areas with the opportunity to learn English language and 21st century job skills.

In the event, 100 students were felicitated on the successful completion of the program.

In his remarks, Andrew Schoffer congratulated the students who completed the 240-hour training course and emphasized that the program will result in a diverse and empowered group of youths who will not only improve their skills. They will be able to play a role in shaping the prosperity of Pakistan and also their own better life.

Andrew Schoffer participated in a discussion on labor rights with Sindh Human Rights Commission officials and the Minister of Labor where they discussed the issues of labor rights violations in the agriculture sector, forced labor and child labor in particular. Discussed.

Andrew Schoffer highlighted the issues of unsafe working conditions and the recovery of exploited workers, while highlighting US support for labor rights and calling for the removal of exploiters from the supply chain.

On the occasion of his visit to Karachi, Deputy Head of the US Mission, Andrew Schoffer, also met with business representatives, civil society, media and private sector leaders, during which he discussed strengthening investment and trade relations, mitigating the effects of climate change and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
