Karan Johar wanted to cast Aishwarya Rai and not Kajol in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham

In Indian director Karan Johar’s film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’, actress Kajol played the role of Shah Rukh Khan’s love interest, while Aishwarya Rai was Karan Johar’s first choice for this role.

Regarding the film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’, director Karan Johar had once revealed in an interview that he wanted to cast Aishwarya Rai for the role of ‘Anjali’.

During an interview to Indian journalist Komal Nehata, Karan had to say that when I was finalizing the cast for ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’, I came to know that Kajol would not be able to act in the film because she was married and she might Also aspiring to be a mother at the time, I thought I would approach Aishwarya for the role.

Karan said, “I went to meet Kajal on the sets of one of her films thinking that I would offer her a film and she would say no and then we would both be sad and it would be over, but not me.” It is known what changed in Kajol that day that Kajol said yes for this film and said that she wants to do this film.

He further said that after Kajol said ‘yes’, I did not go to meet Aishwarya Rai.
