Chicago: A study found that children and teenagers are almost twice as likely to undergo weight loss surgery to get rid of obesity.
According to the research, the number of metabolic surgeries among young people which was 726 in 2016 will increase to 1300 in 2021.
These surgeries change the size and function of the stomach and intestines to help reduce weight and food intake.
The number of weight-loss surgeries increased sharply from 2020 to 2021 when children were confined to their homes due to the Covid-19 lockdown and started using video games and social media more.
The World Health Organization has identified childhood obesity as one of the most serious threats to public health in the 21st century.
According to data collected in 2016, one in five people aged 19 and under is obese. In the 1970s, the rate was five percent, and in 2016, it had reached 17 percent.
Obesity affects almost every part of a pitcher’s body. From stressing the heart and lungs to disrupting the process of hormones that control blood sugar and puberty. It also increases the risk of high blood pressure and cholesterol.
In a study published in JAMA Pediatrics, US researchers studied the prevalence of surgery and obesity in adolescents and children between the ages of 10 and 19 (average 12 years).
