A Russian court fined WhatsApp 3 million rubles for not removing banned content.
Last year, Moscow declared WhatsApp’s source company, Meta Platforms, an ‘extremist’ organization.
Other Metta services Facebook and Instagram are banned in Russia, and have also been fined for their content.
Russia fined WhatsApp for refusing to comply with the country’s data laws and keep Russian users’ data on country servers.
Recently, WhatsApp refused to remove information about a drug, the manufacture and sale of which is banned in Russia.
The court also imposed a fine of 3 million rubles on Wikimedia Foundation, the source company of Wikipedia.
The fine was imposed for not removing ‘false information’ against Moscow’s military campaign in Ukraine.
