Karachi: A Boeing aircraft of the national airline was grounded in Malaysia for non-payment of dues.
According to sources, the Boeing 777 aircraft of PIA was stopped at Kuala Lumpur Airport. The aircraft with BMH registration number has been stopped for the second time by the airport administration. The plane was stopped on the orders of the local court to recover the debts of 4 million dollars.
PIA had acquired an aircraft on lease from a Malaysian company some time ago. On non-payment of lease amount, the concerned company had obtained a local court order for recovery of dues. Some time ago, the seizure of this Boeing aircraft was carried out at the Kuala Lumpur airport on the orders of the court. The plane was later allowed to depart on assurance of payment of dues through diplomatic channels.
After that, once again the plane containing PIA flight was stopped from flying due to non-payment of 4 million dollars. The plane containing PIA flight number PK 894 had reached Kuala Lumpur from Islamabad. Apart from the pilot, co-pilot, 10 air hostesses are deployed on the flight. PIA has sent a Boeing 777 replacement aircraft of PHX registration to repatriate the passengers.
On the other hand, on the news of the plane being stopped in Kuala Lumpur, the position of the spokesperson of PIA also came out, in which it has been said that the said Boeing 777 plane of the national airline is owned by PIA. Engine Leasing Company won an injunction in a Malaysian court for submitting false data.
According to the spokesperson, $8.1 million of the $5.4 million claim was paid. PIA has approached the court through lawyers in Kuala Lumpur and the matter is currently under hearing. Such cases of grounding the aircraft and extorting money by force are not seen anywhere in the world, especially when the leasing company and P.I.A. Both IA and Malaysia are not local companies.
According to the spokesperson of the national airline, PIA has already returned the passengers of the said flight back to the country by alternative aircraft. The plane will soon take off as a commercial flight to return home.
