Russia has given passports to 1.5 million citizens of the annexed territories of Ukraine.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that passports have been given to citizens of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson of Ukraine.
Moscow announced the annexation of these areas to Russia in September last year.
According to the foreign news agency, Russia does not fully control these four territories and the annexation is not recognized internationally.
Prime Minister Mishustin said that 1.5 million citizens of the new territories have been given Russian passports.
He said that pension is being given to 1.6 lakh citizens living here while social benefits are being provided to 1.5 lakh.
Before the war, the population of the four regions was 8.9 million, but after the war, millions of citizens evacuated from here.
Russian President Putin last month signed a decree granting Russian citizenship to people living in Ukraine’s annexed territories.
In this decree, it was stated that the citizen who refuses the citizenship of Russia will be deported.
