Supreme Court Review of Judgments and Orders became law

Islamabad: President of the country Dr. Arif Alvi signed the Supreme Court Review and Judgments Order Act 2023 after which it became a law (Act).

According to Express News, the Supreme Court Attorney General of Pakistan has submitted the copy and notification of the Review of Judgment Act 2023 to the Supreme Court. This law will come into force from Friday.

Under Article 184, the Supreme Court will hear the appeal in the review petitions of the cases.

Under this new law, Nawaz Sharif and Jahangir Tareen will be able to file an appeal against their sentence within 60 days. An appeal can be filed within 60 days against the decision under 184(3) of the Act.

The scope of the Act shall also apply to the judgments made before the making of this Act, the scope of the Act shall also apply to the judgments and rules of the Supreme Court and High Courts. After the implementation of the Act, Nawaz Sharif and Jahangir Tareen will also be able to benefit from the Act.

A revision petition under the Act will be heard by a larger bench, the larger bench having more number of judges than the judges deciding the main case. The adjudicating judge will not be part of the revision bench.

The Supreme Court (Review of Judge Minutes and Orders) Bill, 2023 was passed by the National Assembly on April 14 and the Senate on May 5. The Supreme Court Decisions Revision and Orders Act 2023 was presented as a private bill by Member of Assembly Shaza Fatima, which was surprisingly signed by the President today.

Under this new act, the Supreme Court will also be able to file an appeal against the decisions of the Supreme Court’s automatic notice case.

The Supreme Court Review of Decisions and Orders Act 2023 will also apply to past decisions of 184/3.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly Secretariat has issued the gazetted notification of the Supreme Court Judgments Revision and Orders Act 2023. The Gazetted Notification of the Supreme Court Revision and Orders Act was issued by the Secretary National Assembly Muhammad Qasim Samad Khan.

On the other hand, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarraka said that the new law of the Supreme Court (Review of Judgments and Orders) Act 2023 will not benefit Nawaz Sharif, it is not related to the case of Nawaz Sharif. While talking to Express News, he said that this law is not for a single person, it is not related to Nawaz Sharif’s case, he said that the practice and procedure act will benefit Nawaz Sharif, but on him. The Supreme Court has issued an injunction.

It should be noted that the Supreme Court (Review of Judgments and Orders) Act 2023 Bill was passed by the National Assembly on April 14 and by the Senate on May 5. The Supreme Court Judgments Revision and Orders Act 2023 was introduced as a private bill by MLA Shaza Fatima. The President of the State surprisingly signed the bill, under the Act, the Supreme Court will be able to file an appeal on the decisions of the Supreme Court’s automatic notice case.

An appeal against the decision can be made within 60 days of the approval of the bill. The number of judges in the revision bench will be more than the judges present in the judgment bench. The revision bench set up for appeal against the decision will be larger than the judgment bench. The judges who gave the judgment will not be part of the revision bench.
