Karachi: Many issues are such that if highlighted in general circumstances, it may not receive as much importance as it might after highlighting the issue in specific circumstances. The most important debate in this which is becoming more prominent due to ‘social media’ is the debate of ‘Difference of Domicile’!
In the province of Sindh, the issue of ‘domicile’ has been very sensitive since 1970, and the inhabitants of the same province are still suffering from the strange division of ‘urban Sindh’ and ‘rural Sindh’, the division which And not in any province, but still prevalent in Sindh. In the rest of the country, however, this repetition of ‘domicile’ has reached a climax with respect to the rights or treatment of individuals in Punjab and smaller provinces, with complaints that the state and state institutions The treatment of the Punjab province is relatively lenient, while it is more harsh and merciless for the residents of other provinces.
In other words, Benazir Bhutto has repeatedly said these separate ‘domicile’ things that the deposed Prime Minister of Sindh, Zulfikar Bhutto, was hanged and the Prime Minister of Punjab, Nawaz Sharif, was exiled! Now this problem has become public again, from various analysts to the front-line politicians have started mentioning it in their statements, even the former president in a recent interview given to journalist Hamid Mir. Asif Zardari also complained about his ‘weak domicile’ compared to Imran Khan! Although this question should have been asked to him that your ‘domicile’ must be weak, but ever feel the ‘lowness’ of the ‘domicile’ of the people of Karachi and Hyderabad that your People’s Party in the last 15 years. There is continuous non-participation rule, the domicile of those without four is probably the ‘most defective’ domicile of this country!
This discussion of the official document ‘Domicile’, which is made regarding the permanent residence of citizens, is also called ‘Modern Two National Theory’ in the ‘public language’ of Karachi, which also means the dual standards and contradictions of domicile. are to be marked, which are directly related to ‘nationality’. That is, the actual application of state laws and various rules and regulations will be determined by what language you speak or what nationality you belong to. Yes! The meaning of the discussion of ‘Difference of Domicile’ is exactly this nationality difference. It is so bitter and how strange that despite being citizens of the same country, such open and clear ethnic discrimination is done.
On May 19, 2023, a video of Tehreek-e-Insaf’s lawyer Azhar Siddique regarding the missing persons was widely viewed on ‘Samaji Zari’ Iblag’, in which he is saying that ‘Should Lahore be made into Karachi? Do what you have to do according to the law! A lot of effort was made to create missing persons here, I said that Imran Riaz (famous TV host) is here, from this land, let him stay in Lahore and Punjab, don’t let him become Karachi or Waziristan. Imran Riaz is a citizen and a journalist of Pakistan, he has the right to live etc. It does not mean that he should be disappeared from his home, don’t take him to missing persons, this is Lahore and Punjab, let him stay in Lahore and Punjab. Don’t make it Karachi!’
In a two-minute conversation, Azhar Siddique said three times regarding the missing persons, “Don’t make Lahore Karachi!” At the same time, the said lawyer also said that Imran Riaz is a citizen of the same land, as if the people of Karachi. Even after 3rd and 4th generations and 75 years, ‘here’ could not be imagined! If an ordinary citizen, even an analyst, a columnist or a person appearing in the name of “intellectual” were saying these things, some would probably say that he said them out of “carelessness” or that his language Slipped etc. But sir, this is said by a distinguished lawyer appearing in the high courts, who fights for law and justice day and night. Here we do not want to criticize or criticize the statement of the lawyer at all, because he is also a part of the same society, where perhaps this “modern two-nation theory” is so embedded that even the lawyer of the high courts. It has been forced to say, ‘This is Lahore and Punjab, don’t make it Karachi!’
Perhaps Karachi and the ‘Karachiwales’ are now completely abandoned, for whom it has been decided that they are to be deprived of water, electricity, gas and other basic civic amenities to ‘political freedom’, and to this extent. It has to be ‘regressed’ so that this city, which played a key role in the country’s politics for half a century, becomes worse than ‘orphans’ and ‘abandoned’ and indifferent to ‘politics’, and it has happened. Now it cannot even moan over its wounds, its sobs are forbidden and its tears are guarded. Whether it was looting day in and day out on the broken roads or its youth went missing for years simply for the “crime” of belonging to a political party, now it has to be bowed down and suppressed in the same way. Have the other nations of this state and their conscious circles and civil society agreed on this cruelty and abuse? And now they are angry with themselves, so they argue that we are not from Karachi, who are missing us and oppressing us. What will be the ‘weakness’ of the domicile of the ‘Karachi people’ more than this!
We know, you may find these words of ours bitter, but as bitter as they are, they are more true than that and such a truth, which may not even find a place on the news and TV screens now. This terrible discrimination of ‘domicile’ should end from the whole country including Karachi and Hyderabad and “Life should not be a crime, life should not be a crime!”
