Tehran: The Iranian police have said that on the Iran-Afghanistan border without informing about ‘casualties’ There has been a clash between the Iranian forces and the Afghan Taliban over the water dispute
Iran’s official news agency quoted Qasim Rezai, the deputy head of the police force, as saying that the Taliban used all kinds of lethal weapons on the Iranian police station at 10 a.m. while staying in the Afghan border.
The official did not say whether there were any casualties in the clashes, while “light and semi-light weapons and artillery were used in the clashes,” according to the Iranian news agency. Qasim Rezaei added that Iranian forces responded “decisively” to the firing in Sistan-Baluchistan province.
He added that Iran’s police chief had ordered the border guards to “defend the borders with courage and determination and not allow anyone to violate or approach the borders”.
Although Tehran and Kabul maintain diplomatic ties, the Islamic Republic of Iran does not recognize Afghanistan’s government in Kabul, and relations between the two have been strained recently over a water dispute.
