Washington: 5 supporters of Donald Trump have been sentenced to 18 to 4 years in prison for the attack on the US Parliament and Capitol Hill.
Stuart Rhodes, the mastermind and mastermind of the attack, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for conspiracy and other crimes, according to the World News Agency. Prosecutors had demanded a 25-year prison sentence for him.
It should be noted that Stewart Rhodes, who was sentenced to the longest prison term of 18 years, is a former paratrooper of the US Army and holds a lawyer’s degree. He founded a militia called ‘Oath Keepers’ in 2009.
As a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, Stewart Rhodes and his party led violent protests and even threatened to execute former Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
During the hearing, Stuart Rhodes, instead of expressing shame or remorse for his crime, brazenly stated that he was a political prisoner and was being punished for opposing the country’s destroyers.
On which the judge expressed concern over Stuart Rhodes’ violent ideology and said that I have not said this about any criminal till now, but I am forced to say that you are a criminal for the country, people and democracy. There are risks.
Kelly Maggs, another member of the Oath Keepers, was also sentenced to 12 years in prison for disrupting the proceedings of Parliament, tampering with documents and damaging government property.
Another person was sentenced to 4 years in prison for sitting with his feet on the desk of the Congress office and taking pictures. During the unrest in Capitol Hill, the three of them were also found to be in contact with the vandals who entered the building.
It should be remembered that on January 5, 2021, former US President Donald Trump gave a provocative speech to his supporters, not recognizing the results of the presidential election, after which his supporters entered Congress and Capitol Hill and rioted in which 4 People were killed and many were injured.
