Lahore: High Court Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu has remarked during the hearing of the case that people cannot be left to die in jail.
IG Punjab appeared in the Lahore High Court during the hearing on the petition filed by the woman for the recovery of her son. Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu addressed the IG Police and said that I have no desire to call you. You are the police chief of the largest province of the country. We expect the police to support the courts properly. If a citizen is released from one case, they are arrested in another. What is happening, why is the law not being followed?
The IG Police told the court that important installations including Jinnah House were damaged in the incidents on May 9. Arrest is being done through geofencing. These incidents took place in the cities including Gujranullah, Lahore in the style of Taliban. After the identification parade, innocent persons will be released. He is being arrested with the help of social media, CCTV footage.
He further told the court that 2 WhatsApp groups have also been found, and action is being taken after checking it. They are arresting those involved in torturing women policemen and officers. Investigations are being conducted by forming JITs in the listed cases.
The court remarked that you, me and government institutions are all employees, we get salary. People have employed us. We have not been appointed to rule but to serve. Deal all cases according to law, not in any one case. Don’t give priority to any one. You also have to retire, we also have to retire. IG Sir! You and we have to live in the same society after retirement.
Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu said that we cannot leave people to die in jails.
Later, the court sought written reports from the IG Punjab regarding the action taken in the cases and the procedure of geo-fencing.
Justice Anwarul Haque Pannu heard the petition of woman Kulsoom Arshad, in which she challenged the re-arrest of her son Shoaib Arshad after his release.
