Colombo: The bodies of 14 passengers of the sinking boat of the Chinese company have been recovered in Sri Lanka.

According to the World News Agency, on May 16, a boat belonging to a Chinese company sank. 14 bodies were recovered during the search operation with the help of 3 planes and 4 boats in international search and rescue efforts.

The boat, which had left Cape Town in South Africa for Busan in South Korea on May 5, was last seen on May 10 southeast of Reunion, a small French island in the Indian Ocean.

There were 39 people in the boat, including 17 Chinese, 17 Indonesians and 5 Filipinos. No one in the boat survived. The search for the rest is on.

The reason for the sinking of the boat is being attributed to Cyclone ‘Fabian’ whose 7 meter high waves and winds of 120 km per hour did not give the boat a chance to recover.

The boat was owned by Penglai Jinglu Fishery, a major Chinese state-owned fishing company. which was authorized to fish for neon flying squid and Pacific sori according to the North Pacific Fisheries Commission.
