Ottawa / Riyadh: Canada and Saudi Arabia have decided to end all disputes and restore diplomatic relations after 6 years.
According to the Reuters news agency, Saudi Arabia and Canada announced the end of the ongoing conflict since 2018 and announced the appointment of ambassadors by restoring their diplomatic relations.
The decision was made after talks between Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on the sidelines of the forum’s summit in Bangkok.
According to the statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the restoration of diplomatic relations between Canada and Saudi Arabia was the desire of both, based on mutual respect and taking into account common interests, the decision was taken on Wednesday.

The statement said that Saudi Crown Prince and Canadian Prime Minister Justice Trudeau met on Wednesday and decided to restore diplomatic relations to the old situation. In the announcement issued by Canada, it is said that in the first phase, the process of appointing ambassadors will be completed and then the sanctions imposed on Saudi Arabia will be lifted.

It should be noted that relations between Saudi Arabia and Canada deteriorated after the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey and subsequent arrests in the kingdom. On which both the countries had called back their ambassadors and closed the transaction.
According to official data, Saudi Arabia was the region’s largest export market for Canada in 2021, when imports totaled $US2.2 billion ($1.65 billion). Almost all of Canada’s imports were oil and petrochemicals. More than 80 percent of exports to Saudi Arabia were transportation equipment.
