Kuwaiti authorities raided and recovered the largest drug shipment in the country’s history.
According to the Kuwait News Agency, a drug factory was raided and drugs worth more than 30 million dinars were recovered.
Kuwait’s Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday that forces have recovered half a ton of illegally produced 1.5 million pills and drug-making safof from the Al Farah area near the border with Saudi Arabia.
It was a drug manufacturing factory that made pills out of saffron and sold them on the black market.
The factory was run by two middle-aged men who were assisted by two Indian and Sri Lankan nationals.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused are part of an international organized crime trafficking group that manufactures narcotic pills in Kuwait by importing saffron from abroad.
At the time of the raid, 8 million pills were being manufactured to be smuggled to a neighboring country.
The 2,000 square meter factory has been operating since last year.
After the discovery of the largest shipment of drugs, the Education Affairs Committee of the Kuwaiti Parliament has approved a draft that all educational institutions will conduct drug tests of staff and students.
