Lahore: (Dunya News) Pakistan People’s Party has announced to celebrate the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the 1973 Constitution.
Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has appointed Raza Rabbani as the convener of the committee regarding the events.
It should be noted that after Pakistan Peoples Party chief Zulfikar Ali Bhutto assumed power on 20 December 1971, the National Assembly formed a 25-member constitution-making committee consisting of representatives of all parliamentary parties on 17 April 1972 to draft the constitution.
The head of the constitution-making committee was eminent jurist, Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mahmood Ali Kasuri, who later resigned. After that, Abdul Hafeez Pirzada became the head of the committee and the law minister. The constitution-making committee completed its work by 20 December 1972 and presented the draft to the National Assembly for discussion and approval on 2 February 1973.
On April 10, 1973, the National Assembly approved this constitution, which was also signed by the President on April 12. Later, after the formation of the Senate, this constitution came into force on 14 August 1973.
The 1973 Constitution is a fully written constitution consisting of 280 provisions, classified into six schedules and twelve parts, which is different from all previous constitutions of Pakistan.
Like previous constitutions, the objectives resolution was included in the preamble of the constitution, which was later made a part of the constitution as per the presidential order.
