Poland’s minister of sports and culture has said that allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the next Olympic Games could lead to a boycott of the Olympic Games by 40 countries, rendering the entire event meaningless.
The International Olympic Committee has asked to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the 2024 Olympics.
Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia have jointly rejected the International Olympic Committee’s plan.
Poland’s sports and culture minister has said that he believes it will be possible to form a coalition of 40 countries, including Britain, the United States and Canada, to block the International Olympic Committee’s plans before the February 10 meeting.
According to him, if we boycott the Games, the coalition we will be part of will be broad enough to make holding the Games meaningless.
Ukraine has warned it will boycott the 2024 Paris Olympics if athletes from Russia and Belarus are allowed to compete.
