The endangered gharial has been identified near Kasur in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

3 days ago, there were reports of a gharial being trapped in the fishermen’s net near Kasur.

A WWF Pakistan team visited Punjab after being informed about Gharial’s presence.

WWF Pakistan says that the survey has confirmed the presence of Gharial in Pakistan after three decades.

According to the WWF Pakistan spokesperson, juvenile gharials have also been observed along with adults.

WWF Pakistan says that steps will be taken to discover the gharial, protect the population and increase the breed.

The spokesman said that local fishermen had seen gharials in Okara and Head Sulaimanki a year ago, but these incidents were not reported at that time.

It should be noted that the gharial belongs to the species of crocodile, after the recent floods India released water from Madhya Pradesh into the Beas river, the gharial possibly entered Pakistan via the Sutlej river.

Experts say the gharial is a harmless animal and eats fish to survive.
