On one hand, the Modi government is committing human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir and on the other hand, it is holding the G20 meeting in Srinagar to mislead the world.
Fernand de Vernes, the UN Special Representative on Minority Issues, has warned that human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir have increased dramatically since 2019. The meeting is part of the Modi government’s efforts to portray the situation in Kashmir as normal.
Fernand de Varens added that international organizations like the G20 should continue to support the implementation of the UN Declaration on Human Rights and condemn the dire situation in Jammu and Kashmir, holding the meeting.
Fernand de Varens said in a statement that the Modi government wants to mislead the international community about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that the situation in Occupied Kashmir is very serious and in a letter to the Modi government in 2021, he also expressed concern about the situation in the occupied area.
Fernand de Varens said that the Modi government has locked and settled non-Kashmiris in large numbers from India in the occupied territory, in order to change the proportion of the population there.
He further said that there has been an increase in human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir. Political oppression and violence, restrictions, restrictions on independent media are also increasing.
It should be noted that the G20 meeting is being held in Srinagar from May 22 to 24.
