Taiwan: Saturn, the planet with beautiful rings, is the planet with the most moons in our known universe. This is because the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has officially declared 62 more moons.
Thus the total number of Saturn’s moons is 145. But on the one hand it also has the big moon Titan and on the other hand there are moons called Enceladus where the basic molecules of life have been found.
Edward Ashton of Taiwan’s ‘Academia Seneca Institute of Astronomy’ made these discoveries with the help of a technique called ‘shift and stack’. Smaller and fainter moons are detected in this technology. It looked at images of moons moving at the same speed and read the signals from them. With the same technique we have also found the moons of Neptune and Uranus.
Data from 2019 to 2021 was analyzed by experts with the help of the Canada France Airborne Telescope (CFHT). Then for many years all these suspicious moons were examined and now after being satisfied it has been announced.
New moons, however, are irregular moons and were most likely wandering around before Saturn’s gravitational pull grabbed them and tied them to their orbits. This is the reason why now there are 24 regular moons and 121 irregular moons.
