An employee who has been on medical leave for 15 years sued the company for not increasing his salary.
According to the report of the British daily Telegraph, a senior employee of the leading technology company IBM has filed a lawsuit against the company for not increasing his salary.
Interestingly, senior IT worker Ian Clifford has been on medical leave since 2008, although he is an employee of the company but has not worked for the company in 15 years.
Under IBM’s health plan, Ian Clifford is being given 54,000 pounds (about one crore 91 lakh rupees) annually, but the IT specialist says that this salary is not enough because the value of this money is decreasing along with inflation. .
Ian Clifford joined IBM in 2000, then took a medical leave in 2008 due to illness. Due to the nature of the illness, this leave became longer.
Later, IBM placed Ian Clifford under its ‘disability plan’. Under the plan, Ian will continue to be paid 75 percent of his fixed salary, or £54,000 a year, until he turns 65, and the company will not take any work from him.
So Ian Clifford is now receiving this amount as take-home pay, but in February last year Ian filed an application at the Employment Tribunal alleging that the company is discriminating against him and that his salary is not being increased.
Iain Clifford, in his application to the tribunal, argued that inflation has gone above 10 per cent, which will soon make it difficult for him to live on that amount.
However, the tribunal judge rejected Iain Clifford’s request. Judge Paul Hosgow said in his judgment that there was no evidence of discrimination by the company, even if the value of £50,000 was halved over 30 years, it would still be a very good salary for an employee who The company is not taking any work.
