According to international media reports, the operation was carried out in Shakardara, the native district of ISKP leader Dr. Shahabul Muhajr, north of Kabul, where the group had a wide network.

Among those killed was Qari Fateh, a key ISKP member who had served as Khorasan’s military leader, head of Kunar province and eastern zone, and head of intelligence operations.
Qari Fateh had also masterminded attacks in Kabul that targeted diplomatic missions, mosques and other targets.
