The government's decision not to release the record of the parliamentary proceedings of the Supreme Court Bill

Islamabad: On the summons of the Supreme Court, the government has decided not to give the record of the parliamentary proceedings of the Supreme Court Bill to the court.

According to the sources, the government has decided not to give the records to the court when the records of the parliamentary proceedings on the Supreme Court Practice and Procedural Act 2023 were requested.

The Attorney General’s Office has written to the Speaker’s Office for the required record of parliamentary proceedings.

According to government sources, the Speaker of the Assembly is the custodian of the record of parliamentary proceedings and there is no justification to give the record of the proceedings of Parliament.

It should be noted that the Supreme Court had asked for the record of the parliamentary proceedings related to the Supreme Court Bill last week on May 2. Apart from this, the Supreme Court also adjourned the hearing of the case till today while seeking the record of the discussion in the Standing Committee. The Supreme Court had asked political parties and lawyers’ organizations to respond by May 8 in connection with the case.
