Ethiopian Airlines to start direct service to Karachi after 19 years, first flight will arrive tomorrow


Ethiopia Airlines, the largest airline network in Africa, has started direct flights to Pakistan.

Ethiopian Airlines’ first direct flight from Addis Ababa to Karachi after 19 years will arrive on Tuesday morning.

Ethiopia first started direct flights to Karachi in July 1966. which continued till December 1971. After which the service resumed from June 1993 to July 2004.

According to aviation sources, this series is starting for the third time after almost two decades today from May 8. Ethiopian Airlines’ first direct flight to Karachi, ET694, will depart from Addis Ababa at 9:45 PM local time and will arrive in Karachi at 5:05 AM on May 9.

The first flight ET 695 from Karachi to Addis Ababa is scheduled at 5:55 AM.

Ethiopian Airlines will operate 4 weekly flights from Addis Ababa to Karachi.

“We are excited to return to Karachi almost two decades after we last served,” said Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tsiu.

As Pakistan’s most populous city, Karachi will be an important gateway to Pakistan and the wider South Asian region, he said.

He said that as the only flight connecting Pakistan to Africa, the planned service to Karachi will play an important role in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two regions.

CEO Misfin Tsiu said it will provide easy air connectivity to the growing number of Pakistani investors as well as tourists in Africa.

He also said that Karachi will be Ethiopian Airlines’ 37th destination in Asia. Earlier, Ethiopian Airlines was operating more than 145 domestic and international passenger and cargo flights.
