Agreement on further strengthening Pak-China strategic relations, declaration


The fourth round of Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers Strategic Dialogue was held in Islamabad, in which it was agreed to further strengthen Pakistan-China strategic relations.

According to the statement, Chinese Foreign Minister Chen Gang made his first official visit to Pakistan from May 5 to 6. The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and China jointly chaired the Strategic Dialogue.

The declaration said that bilateral relations in political, strategic, economic, defense security and other fields were reviewed, while regional and global issues of mutual interest were also discussed in the talks.

According to the declaration, it was agreed to further strengthen Pakistan-China strategic relations. The parties also agreed to continue supporting each other on matters of core national interest.

China strongly supports Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while Pakistan reiterated China’s strong support for the One China Policy, all fundamental issues of national interest.

The parties welcomed the completion of a decade of CPEC in 2023 and hailed CPEC as a shining example of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The declaration said that CPEC has created socio-economic development and employment opportunities in Pakistan.

The parties expressed satisfaction over the continuous progress of the CPEC projects.

The parties reiterated the key importance of the ML1 project under the CPEC framework, also agreed to take forward projects in agriculture, science and technology, IT, renewable energy.

According to the declaration, it was also agreed to actively advance the Karachi Circular Railway.

Friendship Hospital, New Gwadar International Airport, progress on various projects in Gwadar were reviewed and the parties also reiterated their commitment to make Gwadar a high quality port, regional trade, connectivity hub.

In the joint statement, the parties reiterated their determination to combat all forms of terrorism, China acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

According to the statement, China appreciated the measures taken to improve the security of Chinese projects, personnel and institutions.
