Customs intelligence operation, attempt to smuggle essential goods to Afghanistan failed


Following the instructions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan in the context of the ongoing crackdown against the smuggling of essential commodities from Pakistan to neighboring countries, the Customs foiled the attempt to smuggle a large quantity of essential commodities from Balochistan to Afghanistan.

Director General Customs Intelligence Faiz Ahmad Chadhar received a confirmed information that huge quantities of Pakistani urea fertilizer and sugar have been dumped in various premises/warehouses in and around Khuzdar, Balochistan for smuggling to Afghanistan, from Balochistan to Afghanistan. This coordinated operation was initiated on April 29 when the above joint team searched the farmhouse of a local smuggler and recovered 26,407 sacks of urea fertilizer and 8,209 sacks of sugar from his premises.

It is to be mentioned that the owner of the premises should provide documentary evidence about the legality of the stored goods Urea and Sugar as per the special regulations issued by the Department of Agriculture Balochistan against Hoarding, Illegal Transportation and Smuggling of Commodities. To complete the third phase of intelligence, the joint team reached Arbab Complex in Khuzdar, a suburban local market, where shops were rented out for illegal stockpiling of essential commodities for smuggling. Finished goods can be smuggled out of Pakistan.

Here the joint team faced stiff resistance from the shop owners who prevented the joint team from reaching the market and threatened to block the RCD highway.

After lengthy negotiations with the help of local elders, the joint team succeeded in dispersing the mob. After the shopping complex was cleared, a thorough search of every shop was conducted, as a result of which 22 thousand 978 sacks of sugar and 2 thousand 646 sacks of urea fertilizer were recovered from 33 different shops.

No one came forward to provide documentary evidence about the legality of these items stocked in the market and even local authorized urea dealers denied ownership of the items, which proved that the goods were fake. Afghanistan was stockpiled with the intention of smuggling. Consequently, the entire stock was seized under the relevant provisions of the Act.

Earlier, in two other operations, Customs Intelligence Balochistan had also seized 2200 sacks of urea fertilizer and 10 thousand sacks of sugar in Gadani and Nushki during the last few days.

Thus, during the ongoing operation against the smuggling of essential goods, Customs Intelligence has seized 41 thousand 883 sacks of urea fertilizer with a market value of Rs 16 crore 75 lakh and 44 thousand 957 sacks of sugar with a market value of Rs 22 crore 47 lakh. Makes Rs.
