Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that no consensus could be reached on the date of elections in the negotiations with the government.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi while talking to the media along with the party leaders at the end of the third round of negotiations with the government team said that the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan is in accordance with the constitution, the constitution prohibits elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that we want elections to be held in Punjab on May 14. Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) wants elections to be held in the whole country on the same day. .
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the PTI said that the National, Sindh and Balochistan Assemblies should be dissolved before May 14, after which elections should be held in 60 days.
He said that PTI said that the delay in the election affects the constitution, one-time constitutional amendment should be done to give constitutional cover to this matter. For the situation in which we are stuck, proposed amendment in the constitution.
The vice-chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaf said that it was agreed on the proposal of one-day election, supervisory setup, dissolution of the assemblies and negotiations on the date of the election could not be successful.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that we have agreed to agree on such a point which is compatible with the constitution, what has been agreed upon should be implemented.
He said that we suggested that the elections should be transparent, there should be no difficulty in accepting the results, we showed enough flexibility for the sake of national consensus, we recognized the desire of the caretaker government as important.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that PDM and we could not agree on the date of the election, we could not agree on the dissolution of the assemblies and the date of the election.
We said that negotiations are taking place on one side and arrests are being made on the other side. Parvez Elahi’s house was raided only after the second round of negotiations.
Vice Chairman PTI said that Khawaja Asif’s statements made the environment not favorable, complicated, we have decided to submit a written statement in the Supreme Court.
He said that he would request the Supreme Court that no progress could be made in the negotiations.
