A large number of endangered donkeys were seen in South Punjab

Lahore: A large number of endangered Egyptian and Russian griffon vultures (vultures) have been seen in the desert region of Yazman in the southern region of Punjab province of Pakistan.

Experts say that if a large-scale survey is done with the help of modern technology, the exact number and habitat of more species of vultures can be estimated. The habitat of small Egyptian vultures has been found in the area, while these vultures sitting on trees have also been photographed.

Wildlife expert Badmanir said that it was a matter of great joy for him, we were seeing so many vultures in one place, we wondered where these vultures came from? Another species has also been photographed, including vultures, which were eating the flesh of a dead camel. The nests and young of these vultures have also been traced for the first time.

Badmanir says that he has been hearing that some species of vultures are completely extinct in Pakistan, especially in Punjab, while many are facing the threat of extinction, but now seeing such a large number of vultures in the Cholistan desert, it is estimated that the correct number of vultures and their habitats. No large-scale survey has been conducted to assess

Talking to The Express Tribune, Deputy Director of Wildlife Research Institute Gutwala Faisalabad Dr. Misbah Sarwar said that no survey of vultures has been conducted in Punjab since he assumed charge in the last four years. He said that their priority is angulates and birds that are allowed for hunting and trophy hunting, Punjab Wildlife also conducts surveys on its own, while for this, the relevant departments of various universities and organizations working for wildlife conservation also support. is taken

Dr. Misbah Sarwar said that there are a total of eight species of vultures in Pakistan, in which white-backed vultures, long-beaked vultures and red-headed or red-headed vultures and small-sized Egyptian vultures are noteworthy. Red-listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), white-backed vultures are 99% extinct in Pakistan, but Changa Manga Vultures Breeding Center currently has 32 male and female vultures.

Jamshed Chaudhry, the representative of WWF working on the conservation of vultures in Punjab, said that only white-backed vultures are being conserved in Punjab. Two weeks ago, he conducted a survey of Tharparkar and Ringarparkar. However, there are other species of vultures, but there is no data on their exact numbers.

Jamshed Chaudhry said that unfortunately, Punjab Wildlife lacks manpower and resources, while manpower and resources with modern technology are needed for the survey of vultures, the department is working according to its resources, the Egyptian vulture species is also endangered. Unfortunately, it is a matter of great pleasure that other species including Egyptian and Eurasian vultures have been seen in Punjab.

Ghazanfar Langah, former director of Punjab Wildlife, told The Express Tribune that there are not enough resources and facilities available in the official government to carry out a detailed survey of the different types of wild species found in Punjab, so one had to rely on the survey reports of various non-governmental organizations and institutions. Just as the number of three types of vultures and their habitats have been revealed, if the government conducts a comprehensive survey, then surely the exact number of endangered wild animals and birds can be estimated.
