Taxes are likely to be imposed on shopkeepers in the upcoming federal budget of 2023-24.
In the important meeting chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to review the tax proposals in the light of the demands of the IMF, it is likely to decide to impose tax on 2 million shopkeepers in the federal budget of the next financial year.
In the federal budget of fiscal year 2023-24, a principle decision was taken to impose tax on shopkeepers.
Sources have told Geo News that there will be a consultation between the Finance Ministry and FBR officials in this regard.
Under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, a special scheme will be introduced to impose tax on shopkeepers in the light of IMF demands.
Under this, a tax will be levied on the electricity bills of the shopkeepers, the electricity distribution companies will collect this tax from the shopkeepers along with the electricity bills and transfer it to the FBR.
FBR will bring this scheme to tax the shopkeepers with annual income of 1 crore and they will be included in the active tax payer list.
