The President of Chad, an African member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has met Prime Minister Netanyahu in Israel.
According to foreign media, President Muhammad Idris Debi also met with senior Israeli officials, including the head of Mossad, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s military secretary, national security advisor, strategic affairs minister and others.
This is his first visit to Israel after assuming the presidency in 2021.
Recall that Israel and Chad announced the restoration of diplomatic relations in January 2019.
Relations between the two countries were severed in 1972, when Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi pressured Chad to cut ties with Israel.
In May 2022, the designated Israeli ambassador to several African countries presented his diplomatic credentials to President Muhammad Idris.
On the occasion, Chad and Israel pledged to strengthen cooperation on issues of common interest, including climate change, agriculture, water distribution and health.
