Evidence of role of agencies in no-confidence motion not found, Hina Jilani


The Human Rights Commission (HRC) declared the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan as a constitutional process in its annual report for the year 2022.

Chairperson HRC Pakistan Hina Jilani released the annual report during the ceremony in the presence of Secretary General Haris Khaliq and others.

On this occasion, he said that the judiciary does not have the authority to order political parties to negotiate.

Hina Jilani further said that Imran Khan lost the no-confidence motion in 2022, before the Supreme Court declared the Deputy Speaker’s ruling against the no-confidence motion unconstitutional.

Addressing the event and then talking to Geo News, he said that no evidence of the role of agencies in the no-confidence motion was found.

Hina Jilani also said that there is concern about political and economic turmoil in the year 2022, this year has not been different from 2021.

He said that in the year 2022, the flood disasters increased the socio-economic problems of the people, in the same year, terrorism and religious extremism resurfaced.

The Chairperson of HRC said that this issue was especially seen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, despite the military operations, these elements kept raising their heads again and again.

He said that in the year 2022, political upheaval and crisis were on the rise which damaged the democratic development while the political upheaval weakened the parliament.

Hina Jilani said that the army publicly announced its separation from political affairs, still waiting for when the political and democratic process will take place.

He said that elections are also included in this process, institutions are confusing people instead of protecting the constitution and rights.

Chairperson HRC said that freedom of expression is not being respected in the country, there have been some positive developments in the country, that is the legislation regarding women and children.

The HRC report also took a categorical stand regarding the judiciary.

The chairperson of the commission openly condemned the violations of enforced disappearances, freedom of speech, human rights against minorities and transgenders.

HRC took the government to task for restrictions on civil society and said that civil society is being subjected to strictures by the state.
