A shocking incident has come to light in India where a 70-year-old woman had to walk barefoot for several kilometers to collect her pension from the bank.
A video from the Indian state of Odisha is going viral on social media, in which a weak woman can be seen walking barefoot in the scorching heat with the support of a broken chair.
According to Indian media reports, elderly woman Surya Harijan is very poor, her elder son works in another state while she lives with her younger son’s family.
Surya Harijan’s younger son also steals people’s cattle for sustenance, the family has neither land nor house, Surya Harijan lives in a hut with her younger son.
According to media reports, earlier when the poor woman went to the bank to collect her pension, her thumb was not found in the record, in which case the woman was forced to return home without taking the pension.
Reacting to the incident, the State Bank of India manager said that the woman was having trouble withdrawing money due to her broken fingers, and the bank was working to resolve the issue.
