Sky-high inflation has eaten away the joy of Eid, the shopkeepers of Karachi termed the current Eid season as the worst season in the country’s history.
On this Eid, only twenty billion rupees were purchased in the city, this purchase is less than the shopping done during the corona lockdown in previous years.
Traders say that last year too, twenty five to thirty billion rupees were purchased, they have barely sold even half of the stock that was collected for Eid.
Traders said the city’s bazaars were devoid of the traditional festive atmosphere of Eid.
Atiq Mir, chairman of All Karachi Traders Union, described the Eid season as disappointing for businessmen and said that 80 percent of the Eid purchases were of low-cost clothes for children and women.
