Islamabad: Due to the local level of mobile phone manufacturing in the country, the import of mobile phones has started to decrease significantly, during the first 9 months of the current financial year, a 71% decrease in the import of mobile phones has been recorded.
In the statement issued by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, it has been stated that during the first 9 months (July-March) of the current fiscal year 2022-23, a total of 463 million dollars worth of mobile phones have been imported.
According to statistics, the value of mobile phones imported during the same period of the last financial year was one billion 596 million dollars. Thus, in the first three quarters of the current financial year, a 71% decrease in the overall import of mobile phones has been recorded.
According to the statistics of the Federal Bureau of Statistics, in the same period of the last fiscal year 2021-22, the volume of mobile phone imports was recorded at 1.596 billion dollars.
In the month of March 2023, 15 million dollars of foreign exchange was spent on the imports of mobile phones, which is 92% less than in March last year. In March last year, 184 million dollars of foreign exchange was spent on mobile phone imports.
In the announcement of the Federal Bureau of Statistics, it has been stated that the imports of mobile phones have decreased by 55% on a monthly basis in March as compared to February. It should be noted that in the first 9 months of the current financial year, a significant decrease of 65% has been recorded in the overall telecom imports on an annual basis.
