The Austrian Air Force raced after the Israeli passenger plane lost contact.
The Boeing 777 had departed from Amsterdam to Tel Aviv. According to the Ministry of Defense of Austria, the plane could not be contacted for 12 minutes.
The incident occurred on Monday when air traffic controllers at a radar tower in the German city of Rhine contacted the plane to hand it over to Austrian air traffic control, but the pilots did not respond.
Following protocol, Austria sent two fighter jets of its air force to spot the passenger plane.
As soon as the Israeli flight made contact with the control tower, the fighter jets returned to the airbase.
Speaking to foreign media, the passengers said that they felt some anxiety after seeing the fighter jets coming around their plane.
He said that the fighter jets were so close that we could see their missiles but still the crew did not inform the passengers about the situation.
After the plane landed at Ben Gurion Airport, the airline said it was investigating a malfunction in the plane’s communications system.
The plane was passing through Germany and Austria before heading to Israel, during which the plane could not be contacted by Austrian air traffic control.
