A joint statement by the Pakistan Bar Council and the elected leadership of the provincial councils said that the move to set the case for urgent hearing is tantamount to splitting the High Court.
The joint statement said that a one-sided and controversial bench was formed even before the law came into force. Lawyer leaders have unanimously termed this move as dividing the Supreme Court.
The declaration said that never in judicial history had a law made by Parliament been stopped from coming into force, would resist stopping the legislation before it came into force.
The Pakistan Bar Council said that lawyers across the country will boycott the courts today against this unfair move.
The statement said that the meeting of elected representative leaders of Pakistan Bar Council across the country will be held on April 17 in Islamabad.
The statement added that this legislation is in line with the resolution passed by the All Pakistan Lawyers Convention on October 12, 2019.
It should be noted that the PBC has announced a strike today against the decision to form an 8-member bench against the Supreme Court Bill, the Bar Council has announced that the courts will also be boycotted across the country today.
