Peshawar: Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court on the issue of not giving a date for the elections in the province.
In the petition filed by Mushtaq Ghani, it has been argued that the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has given October 8 as the date for the elections. Peshawar: The governor had earlier announced the date of May 28, but the Election Commission did not notify it. According to the constitution, elections must be held within 90 days of the dissolution of the assembly.
It has been stated in the petition that the date of October 8 by the Governor is illegal and unconstitutional. The Supreme Court has declared the Election Commission’s date of October 8 null and void. The Supreme Court has also given a decision and the Election Commission is bound to implement it. Elections cannot be postponed on the pretext of economic crisis or security. The petition has requested that the court order the governor to give a date for the immediate election.
In the petition filed by Speaker KP Assembly Mushtaq Ghani, Election Commission, Federal and Provincial Governments, Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and President of the State have been made parties.
