Karachi: The Sindh Assembly unanimously approved the resolution to hold elections simultaneously across the country.
In the meeting of the Sindh Assembly under the chairmanship of Agha Siraj Durrani, instead of holding the elections in Punjab and KP in May, the resolution to hold the elections in the provinces and the federation on the same day has been unanimously approved.
The members of Tehreek-e-Insaf protested and raised slogans in the House opposing the resolution. PTI members stood on their seats while the resolution was being presented, and burned the desk. A resolution was moved in the House by PPP member Ganhur Asran, which said that a controversy had arisen due to a court decision regarding the conduct of elections in Punjab and KPK, in which four honorable judges dismissed Somoto while Three Hon’ble Judges issued Election Commission of Pakistan instructions for elections in Komai.
The resolution said that the spirit of the 18th constitutional amendment for free and fair elections was to empower the Election Commission of Pakistan and to form caretaker governments at the time of general elections. Elections are held at the same time.
The resolution said that this House demands that elections to the National and Provincial Assemblies should be held simultaneously in the presence of caretaker governments across the country under the orders of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Khawaja Izharul Hasan of MQM expressed his opinion on the resolution and said that this resolution is not against the judges but for the impartiality of the Supreme Court.
