The Taliban restored the broadcast of the women's radio station

Badakhshan: Afghanistan’s women’s radio station ‘Sadai Banwan’ has resumed broadcasting after a one-week shutdown.

A week ago, the Taliban stopped the broadcast of ‘Sadai Banwan’ for broadcasting music during Ramadan. In the Dari language Sadaya Banwan means ‘female voice’.

Sadaya Banwan started ten years ago from Derakhshan province. It is the only radio station in Afghanistan whose majority staff consists of women. Six of the eight employees of the radio station are women.

Talking to foreign media, the Director of Information and Culture in Badakhshan, Moeezuddin Ahmadi, said that after the assurance of compliance with the country’s laws and regulations by the radio management, the broadcasting was allowed to resume.

Manager of the radio station Najiya Sarosh said that we assured the Department of Information and Culture not to broadcast music, after which permission has been given to resume broadcasting.

The Afghanistan Journalists Safety Committee, which played a key role in resolving the issue between radio management and authorities, has welcomed the restoration of radio broadcasting.
